Intel unveils chip at Taiwan tech show

TAIPEI, Taiwan (AP) — Intel Corp. on Tuesday unveiled a new processor it says will revolutionize the information technology industry by powering small laptops at low cost….
I am science, me and that is one impressive little chip. The Atom processor will be used in mobile devices such as your iPhone. However, the more exciting implementation will come in lower costing notebook computers.
Netbooks - cheap notebooks, smaller with less functions than standard laptops fall under the $500 category.
“The devices are being designed to bring the power of the Internet to almost everyone,” Shenoy said.
Shenoy said that the Atom is relatively cheap to make and extra small, with 2,500 of the chips - each containing 47 million transistors - fitting on one 12-inch wafer. (mmm, wafers)</homer>
So who’s ready for a laptop that’s low on battery consumption and won’t break the bank? Count me in.
Features and the good stuff:
All IntelĀ® AtomTM processors feature:
* Small Form Factor CPU Package
* Low TDP
* Power Optimized Front Side Bus
* Enhanced Data Prefetcher & Enhanced Register Access Manager
